Best in GameDev and Cosplay – Results of Jubilee WEGAME 5.0 by Smile-Expo

On April 20 and 21, Smile-Expo hosted the fifth festival for fans of video games and cosplay WEGAME 5.0 in the capital of Ukraine. The jubilee event was attended by a record number of participants and exhibitors.

Exhibition: for those who loves games

This time 50 industry-specific companies engaged in video game development, production of computers and accessories, distribution of comics and souvenir products, presented their solutions to geeks and gamers in the exhibition area.

Almost every booth offered contests, testing of products, and prize draws. Thus, Cougar and Bloody A4Tech, brands that supply computer peripherals and accessories for gamers, unveiled novelties and organized a quiz and tournaments of board games.

At the booth of Expert PC, guests were testing cool gaming hardware and playing Battlefield 5, Apex Legends, and CS:GO. Vision Tech demonstrated capabilities of personalized gaming PCs, and Active Game allowed guests to try out car simulators at their booth. One of the most popular booths were those with video games including TowerHex VR.

The booth of Vodafone mobile carrier had its own game zone: there were competitions in Asphalt 8, and a VR tennis game that showed the difference in the operation of 4G and 5G.

eSports tournaments at WEGAME 5.0

Fans of video games and beginning eSports players had space to show their skills: the festival offered eSports tournaments in all possible disciplines. For example, the PC Zone offered the WEGAME CyberZone Cup: on April 20, gamers fought for the best Dota 2 and CS:GO player title and the prize fund of each discipline equaled to 10,000 UAH. On April 21, Lanet PUBG WEGAME Cup took place at that location, supported by the Streaming Partner Lanet PLAY.

Sponsor of eSports tournaments was HyperX, and General Partners of the championship were LG (Technical Partner of the eSports Zone), ASUS CyberZone (Main eSports Partner), GameInside.ua (Main eSports Media Partner), and YouBox (Gift Partner).

Besides, the event offered WEGAME CyberZone battle Cup in Dota Auto Chess and CS:GO with the prize fund of 7,000 UAH. Tournament sponsors were Cougar and Bloody A4Tech.

Lovers of FIFA and Mortal Kombat competed for 3,000 UAH prize fund in the Console Zone, the General Partner of which was FINT Esports Academy. Besides, participants received presents from HyperX and PromoPUFF, the Comfort Sponsor of the competition. As a special bonus, fans of cyber football could meet with the local FIFA champions – Vitaly “labotryas” Mukha and Maksim “GG_Fear” Bober.

The festival also offered the epic WEGAME Hearthstone Champ, the Creative Partner of which was Fabrika Futbolok. The tournament, where participants demonstrated their skills in the mobile discipline, took place in the Mobile Zone of the festival (Sponsor – Expert PC).

Those who feel nostalgic about old video games could attend a standalone Retro Zone. Besides, guests could play DnD with experts of Ded Lihozor club in the Board Game Zone as well as assess top games presented by the Igromag store.

The best cosplayers of this season

WEGAME 5.0 could not do without the traditional cosplay show that annually creates the truly festive atmosphere at the event. This time, there were interesting changes in the rules giving more possibilities to show yourself. For example, we introduced the opportunity to cosplay not only popular heroes but also invent your own characters. Besides, there was a new nomination, where viewers selected the winner instead of judges.

Winners of the cosplay contest in 2019:

  • Best performance – Hibari Rin, Link (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild);
  • Best craft – Volodimir Zhuravlov, Raynor (StarCraft);

About eSports, game development, and cosplay – open lectures

The main stage of the event saw a cosplay defile, awarding of tournament winners, and informative lectures on game development, photography art, craft, blogging, and eSports.

On the first day, representatives of the eSports industry gave their lectures: Arseniy Salay from FINT Esports Academy, cyber football player Oleg “Walkman” Shustenko, and CMO of Windigo Gaming Eugen Nikolaev. Oleksandr Dyakivnych (Alex_D20) and Stas Burov (Zaddrot.com and Keddr.com) discussed game blogging and streaming themes.

The second day offered lectures about game development, cosplay, and geek art. Lectures were given by the independent game developer Ivan Kovalov, Anna and Pavel Ohol from Any Robots, and the cosplay contest judge Elena [Pugoffka] Kucheruk.

Show program hosts were the video blogger Andrii Biryulin and actress Kristina Zomchak that were helping guests to find their way around at the two-day festival. The jubilee WEGAME 5.0 was the largest, loudest, brightest, and record-breaking in terms of attendance as compared to the rest of organized festivals.

Engaging games, technical novelties, and a bright cosplay show were interesting to both adults and children. WEGAME 5.0 was also attended by children from the orphanage with the support from Freeway charity fund. The organizer of the festival Smile-Expo cares about children and is always happy to see them at events.

We are expressing gratitude to sponsors, participants, and guests of the event. See you next year! You can find more information about the past event on the official website of WEGAME.
