Results of the Fifth Connected Car Conference: Presentations on Auto Evolution and Peculiarities of Tesla’s Operation

On May 23, the capital of Russia saw the fifth Connected Car Conference 2019 by Smile-Expo. The industry-specific event featured specialists of the Russian connected car market. Leading car manufacturers, communications providers, and lawyers took part in the productive networking and discussion of trends.

The conference was attended by representatives of Toyota Bank, AvtoVAZ, LG Electronics Russia, General Mobile Corporation, BMW Russland Trading, Kaspersky Lab, Meteorological solutions, Rohde & Schwarz, STCrown THERMO, Visa Inc, Farvater, and others.

What did speakers discuss?

Candidate of Engineering Sciences (Ph. D.), Head of Department at Moscow Polytechnic University Ilya Volnov played the role of the conference moderator. Participants touched on up-to-date issues and problems of the automotive industry.

  • Managing Partner at Moscow Tesla Club Igor Antarov told guests of the event how Tesla worked on driverless electric cars.
  • Auto evolution and its components were discussed by Kirill Zhanaydarov, Head of transport infrastructure projects at Skolkovo.
  • Tatiana Kofanova from Deloitte Consulting shared forecasts of how value chains might change in the car industry by 2025.
  • CEO of RGRAUTO Ltd Roman Ferster told how to ensure driver safety and prevent car accidents on roads using AD and ADAS systems.
  • Director of insurance telematics development at JSC GLONASS Pavel Bunin explained how insurers used the automated data system of the RAMI (Russian Association of Motor Insurers) and the infrastructure of ERA-GLONASS system to obtain data needed to reconstruct the road accident and resolve legal disputes efficiently.
  • Denis Medvedev (Samocat Sharing) and Denis Netaliev (Tesla KB) mentioned the reasons for the fast-growing popularity of scooter sharing and electric cargo bikes.

Besides, attendees of the Connected Car Conference 2019 showed interest in presentations of Konstantin Trofimenko (Higher School of Economics), Christian Böttger (A+S TRANSPROJECT), Anton Zhuravlev (Digital Age of Transport Association), and Alexander Kolomensky (MTS Transport).

Guests noted that the conference was developing alongside the connected car market and speakers were bringing up relevant and truly important issues in their presentations.

“I have attended the conference for several years and each time I found it interesting. The world is changing, and the conference is changing as well. Being a creator of the resource focused on traditional cars, I was interested to hear how they will change in the nearest time, how car and electronics manufacturers see them,” commented the representative of the online catalog of Russian petrol stations called Benzin-price.ru.

Panel discussion on legal regulations and development of digital technologies in the transport field

Apart from standalone presentations of speakers, the conference featured the expert discussion titled “Regulatory basis of digital tech-aided transport. The regulatory framework for data exchange”, which was moderated by Antonina Levashenko (the RANEPA Center of Competence and Analysis of OECD Standards).

Participants of the discussion were such specialists as:

  • Roman Yankovskiy (IP/IT adviser at Tomashevskaya & Partners);
  • Ekaterina Larens (Senior Lawyer at Clifford Chance CIS Limited);
  • Ivan Ermokhin (Russia-OECD Center).

Attendees also participated in the panel discussion by filling in personal questionnaires. During the discussion, guests received answers to questions concerning the responsibility for actions of AI-powered cars and legal nuances that are important for the development of technologies in the car industry.

Products were presented by Geomatics, the distributor of 3D Velodyne LiDARs and integrator of L-SCAN scanning systems designed for cars and drones.
